Xiaomi 18T/Pro Series Phones Move Ahead in Development
Development on the next-generation Xiaomi 18T/Pro series phones is officially underway as the brand prepares to refresh its performance tier lineup. According to a report by IT Home citing digital insider SmartPikachu, Xiaomi is actively engineering new T series devices with MediaTek Dimensity processors and an ambitious 200-megapixel Leica co-engineered camera system.
These future smartphones are tentatively expected to go on sale ahead of China's mid-year 618 shopping festival in 2027. Early indicators suggest the phones will offer a relatively narrow aspect ratio alongside medium to large displays, aiming to combine comfortable one-handed ergonomics with expansive viewing areas.
High Resolution Leica Optics and Dimensity Performance
The headline feature under testing for the Xiaomi 18T/Pro series phones is a 200 megapixel imaging sensor backed by Leica visual tuning. This would represent a major camera upgrade for the T series, which previously relied on 50 megapixel primary lenses. If this 200-megapixel system makes it to production, it could provide a substantial leap in zoom quality and fine detail capture, matching the high-end photography capabilities of premium flagships.
Under the hood, Xiaomi will continue its partnership with MediaTek by using high-tier Dimensity chips. While the specific processor models remain unannounced, they will succeed the hardware found in the current generation. To deliver this performance, the devices will likely pair these processors with fast memory and storage configurations to match their demanding imaging hardware.
Building on the 17T Series
To understand where the new generation is heading, it is helpful to look at the preceding Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro, which brought the T series to China. The standard 17T launched with a 6.59-inch OLED display with 2756 x 1268 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It was powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8500-Ultra chip, paired with LPDDR5X memory and fast UFS 4.1 flash storage.
For those wanting more power, the 17T Pro raised the bar with a 6.83 inch OLED display, 2772 x 1280 resolution, and a faster 144Hz refresh rate. It was powered by a flagship tier Dimensity 9500 chip, while keeping the same LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage standards. The upcoming 18T family will build directly on these foundations, seeking to offer faster processing, more advanced displays, and a massive jump in camera resolution.
Focus on Color Calibration and Natural Design
The leaks emphasize that the Xiaomi 18T/Pro series phones will highlight a rich, natural "visual tone" through its Leica partnership. This suggests a continued focus on natural color processing and professional photographic styles over overly saturated digital grading.
Additionally, the physical design is expected to focus on a compact grip. By avoiding overly wide aspect ratios, Xiaomi aims to ensure that even with larger screen sizes, the phones remain comfortable to hold and use daily.
Stronger Value for Mobile Photographers
The development of these models is excellent news for buyers who want top tier camera performance without the premium cost of an ultra flagship. Testing a 200 megapixel sensor alongside Leica's color science shows Xiaomi's commitment to bringing high level photography to its more accessible T series. With a launch likely timed for the mid 2027 shopping season, these devices are shaping up to be some of the most competitive options in the performance category.
