iPhone Ultra: Apple’s First Foldable iPhone Could Launch With a New Name
Apple’s first foldable iPhone may officially arrive as the iPhone Ultra, rather than the widely used “iPhone Fold” name.
According to IT Home, citing Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, the upcoming foldable phone is commonly referred to as “Ultra” inside Apple. Gurman made the comment after tech analyst Max Weinbach questioned whether Apple would actually use the iPhone Ultra branding.
The important point is that Apple has not officially confirmed the iPhone Ultra name, so it should still be treated as a rumor.
iPhone Ultra Name Is Looking More Likely
For months, Apple’s first foldable smartphone has commonly been called the iPhone Fold by leaks and media reports. However, more recent reports have increasingly used the iPhone Ultra name.
The Ultra branding would also make sense for Apple. The company already uses “Ultra” for premium products such as the Apple Watch Ultra, and the foldable iPhone is expected to sit above the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in price.
9to5Mac has also reported that the foldable device is expected to be positioned as Apple’s new top-tier iPhone.

Current reports suggest Apple's foldable iPhone could feature:

- 7.6 to 7.8-inch foldable inner display
- Book-style folding design
- A20-series Apple chip
- Apple C2 5G modem
- Touch ID in the power button instead of Face ID
- 48MP main rear camera

- Two-display design with cameras for both folded and unfolded use
- A significantly reduced display crease

9to5Mac reports that the device will have a wider book-style design, while MacRumors has also reported a roughly 7.8-inch inner display and 5.5-inch cover screen.
There is also software evidence that Apple is preparing for a foldable device. Code discovered in iOS 27 includes references related to fold states, hinge angles and multiple built-in displays. Later iOS 27 beta code also contained references to an iPhone using multiple batteries.
iPhone Ultra Price Could Start Around $2,000
Apple’s foldable iPhone is expected to become the company’s most expensive smartphone.
Current estimates put the starting price at approximately $1,999, although some reports and analysts have suggested prices between $2,000 and $2,500 depending on storage and configuration.
That pricing would clearly position the iPhone Ultra above Apple's traditional Pro lineup.
When Will the iPhone Ultra Launch?
Apple is currently expected to introduce its first foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September 2026.
However, availability could be limited at launch, and some reports suggest sales may begin slightly later than the regular iPhone 18 Pro models. The exact release timing has not yet been confirmed by Apple.
