Apple iPhone 18 Pro Models Remain eSIM-Only in 12 Regions
Apple is continuing its move away from physical SIM cards with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. According to Apple’s official regional specifications, both models will be sold without a physical SIM slot in 12 countries and regions.
The affected markets are:
- Bahrain
- Canada
- Guam
- Japan
- Kuwait
- Mexico
- Oman
- Qatar
- Saudi Arabia
- United Arab Emirates
- United States
- U.S. Virgin Islands
The list remains unchanged from the iPhone 17 Pro series. Apple first introduced eSIM-only iPhones in the US with the iPhone 14 lineup in 2022 and has gradually expanded the approach to additional markets.
Physical SIM Still Available in Most Markets
Outside these 12 regions, the iPhone 18 Pro models continue to offer a physical nano-SIM slot alongside eSIM support. This includes markets such as the UK, European Union countries, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
China gets a different configuration, with the iPhone 18 Pro series supporting two physical nano-SIM cards in addition to the other supported SIM configurations.
Apple says removing the physical SIM tray provides additional internal space, which can be used for a larger battery. The iPhone 17 Pro Max has a 5,088mAh battery, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max reportedly increases this to 5,567mAh globally, with the Chinese version listed at 5,391mAh.
Charging speeds have also increased with the new generation. While Apple’s recent Pro models started around 20W fast charging, the iPhone 17 Pro series reached roughly 30–40W. The iPhone 18 Pro series goes further, with charging reported at up to 60W depending on the model and configuration.
