Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 vs. Galaxy Z Flip 7: What to Expect

Samsung is expected to release the new Galaxy Z Flip 8 this summer. While we are still waiting for official news, early leaks and rumors give us a good idea of what is coming.

Design and Size

The overall look of the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will likely be very similar to the Z Flip 7, featuring the same glass and aluminum build. However, rumors suggest the new model will be slightly lighter and thinner. While the Z Flip 7 weighs 188 grams, leaks point to the Z Flip 8 weighing around 180 grams. We also expect to see some fresh new color options this year.

Display Features

Do not expect any major changes to the screens. Because Samsung updated the screen sizes last year, the Z Flip 8 will almost certainly use the exact same displays as the Z Flip 7. This means you can expect the same bright 2600-nit screen, a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, and the same bezel sizes. The fingerprint scanner will also likely stay on the side of the phone.

Performance and Software

The biggest difference between the two phones will be the processor. The Z Flip 7 uses the Exynos 2500 chip, but the upcoming Z Flip 8 is expected to feature the newer, faster Exynos 2600. Everything else under the hood should stay the same, including 12GB of RAM and options for either 256GB or 512GB of storage.

For the software, the Z Flip 8 will likely launch with Android 16 (and Samsung's One UI 8.5) right out of the box, with an update to the newer Android 17 arriving a few months later.

Cameras

If you want a major camera upgrade, you might be disappointed. Current leaks show that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will use the exact same camera setup as the Z Flip 7: a 50-megapixel main camera and a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera. Even if the hardware stays the same, Samsung might improve photo quality using new AI software, but we will have to wait and see.

Battery Life and Charging

Battery life is another area where things are staying the same. The Z Flip 8 is expected to keep the same 4,300 mAh battery found in the Z Flip 7. Charging speeds will also remain unchanged, offering 25W for plugged-in wired charging and 15W for wireless charging.

The Bottom Line

Right now, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is shaping up to be a very minor update. It will bring a faster processor, a slightly lighter body, and some new colors, but the screens, cameras, and battery look exactly the same as last year's model. Based on these early rumors, there might not be a strong reason for Z Flip 7 owners to upgrade just yet.
