Xiaomi HyperOS 3.1 Global Testing Begins for Top Phones, AirPods Support Rumored
Xiaomi has kicked off the global testing phase for its next software update, HyperOS 3.1. The company is currently testing the new firmware on nine flagship models to ensure compatibility and fix any bugs before a wider public release. This follows the recent rollout of the HyperOS 3.1 beta in China.
The initial batch of global phones selected for testing includes:
- Xiaomi 17, 15 Ultra, 15, 14 Ultra, 14
- Xiaomi MIX Flip
- Xiaomi Pad Mini
- POCO F7 Ultra and F7 Pro
One key condition for receiving this update is that HyperOS 3.1 is built on Android 16. This means only devices eligible for the Android 16 upgrade will be able to install it, potentially leaving older models out.
According to leaks and reports, the new update is expected to bring several visual and functional improvements. These include tweaks to the user interface (UI), an upgraded Hyper Island feature with smoother animations, better home screen and folder customization options, and more powerful lock screen editing tools. One notable change is a redesigned recent apps menu that uses a stacked, horizontal layout similar to Apple's iOS.
In a surprising move, new leaks suggest HyperOS 3.1 might also introduce official support for Apple's AirPods. This would mean Xiaomi phones could show a quick connection pop-up when AirPods are opened nearby, similar to iPhones, and potentially support features like battery status checks and Spatial Audio. The update may also improve general connectivity features with iPhones, like easier file sharing and call handling.
Xiaomi is expected to begin the stable rollout of HyperOS 3.1 in China starting in February 2026, with flagship models receiving it first. The global release timeline will likely follow after testing is completed. As this is still in the testing phase, specific features and the final rollout schedule are subject to change.
