Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Preview: Qualcomm Shares Key Specs
Qualcomm has revealed important new information about its upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. The announcement was made during the recent Snapdragon Summit in Maui, Hawaii, where the company also introduced its flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, aimed at offering more variety in the high-end segment, is also built using the advanced 3nm process—similar to its Elite sibling. It features a custom Oryon CPU, with one high-performance core reaching speeds up to 3.8GHz, while the seven performance cores can hit up to 3.32GHz.
Unlike the Elite version, which boasts a dual-prime core layout, the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is expected to follow a 1+7 CPU structure—one prime core and seven performance cores. This configuration suggests a balance between speed and efficiency for premium smartphones.
Qualcomm also confirmed that the chip includes a new-generation Adreno GPU, a more powerful Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for AI tasks, and an upgraded AI-powered Image Signal Processor (ISP) to enhance camera capabilities.
While detailed specifications are still under wraps, Qualcomm stated the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will launch later this year. Until then, users can expect more gradual updates from the company as the chipset nears release.
This new chip aims to provide users with flagship-level features while offering manufacturers more flexibility in device design and pricing.
