Apple is bringing a big update to its podcast app. With iOS 26.4, Apple Podcasts will now support video podcast episodes for the first time.

This new feature allows users to watch or listen to podcasts in the same app. You can switch between video and audio anytime, and even download video episodes to watch later without internet.

Apple is using HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) technology. This helps videos play smoothly on both Wi-Fi and mobile data, even when the network is slow. It also gives creators more control over how their content is shown and how they earn money.

According to Eddy Cue, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Services, this update is a major step in the podcast journey. Apple wants creators to fully control their content while making it easier for listeners to enjoy podcasts in both audio and video formats.

Video podcasts will work with all existing Apple Podcasts features. This includes personalized recommendations, featured sections, and category-based suggestions, so users can easily discover new shows.

For creators, Apple is working with popular podcast hosting and ad platforms like Acast, ART19, Omny Studio, and SiriusXM. These platforms support video podcasts at launch and allow dynamic video ads, opening new ways to earn revenue.

The video podcast feature is already available for testing in beta versions of iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, and visionOS 26.4. The final public release of iOS 26.4 is expected in spring 2026.
