Garmin Fenix 8 Pro Launches with LTE, Satellite Messaging, and microLED Display Option
Garmin has unveiled the Fenix 8 Pro, its most advanced outdoor smartwatch to date. This latest model brings long-awaited features like built-in LTE connectivity, inReach satellite messaging, and an optional microLED display, aimed squarely at outdoor adventurers and professionals who need constant connectivity—whether on or off the grid.
LTE and Satellite Messaging Onboard
For the first time, Garmin is offering standalone LTE in the Fenix series. This means users can make voice calls, send texts, and share LiveTrack location directly from the watch—without a phone. LTE connectivity is handled via the Garmin Messenger app and uses an LTE-M network designed for low-power operation.
When you venture beyond cellular coverage, Garmin’s inReach satellite system takes over. With it, users can send and receive text messages, perform check-ins, and trigger SOS alerts, even in the most remote parts of the world. The system now even supports two-way voice messaging, a huge upgrade over older inReach integrations.
These features require a Garmin subscription, starting at $8/month, with tiered plans offering varying amounts of satellite messaging and check-in credits.

First Garmin Watch with microLED Display
The Fenix 8 Pro is also Garmin’s first smartwatch to offer a microLED display. It delivers an incredible 4,500 nits of brightness, making it ultra-readable in direct sunlight. This display is only available on the 51mm version, and it comes at a cost—battery life.
With Always-On Display (AOD) enabled, the microLED model lasts just 4 days, compared to up to 15 days on the OLED version of the same size. This trade-off may not appeal to users who prioritize long battery life over screen brightness.
Price and Availability
The Fenix 8 Pro starts at $1,200 for the 47mm OLED version and $1,300 for the 51mm. The premium microLED version costs $2,000. All models will be available from September 8, 2025.
